NVIDIA GameStream Coming to SHIELD Owners
on Oct. 28th
"When SHIELD launched back in July, the ability to stream PC games from your GeForce GTX PC to SHIELD was lauded by critics, even though the feature was still in BETA.
Today, at our The Way It’s Meant to be Played press event in Montreal, our CEO Jen-Hsun Huang outlined the company’s vision for a connected gaming ecosystem. At the center of this is a new streaming technology standard called NVIDIA GameStream.
NVIDIA GameStream, due to launch on Oct. 28, is NVIDIA’s advanced streaming technology, combining the high performance of GeForce GTX graphics cards with advanced Wi-Fi technologies to deliver super-smooth, low-latency gaming on the go. It effectively puts the ultimate GeForce gaming experience in the palm of your hands.

Initially, NVIDIA GameStream will be available for local PC streaming, however, longer-term, it will also support NVIDIA GRID cloud gaming services.
Along with the release of GameStream comes expanded streaming support, including:
- Super smooth and fast performance at 60 frames per second.
- Enhanced Wi-Fi quality of service in combination with GameStream Ready routers from leading network partners ASUS, Buffalo, D-Link, and NETGEAR.
- Improved onscreen navigation and controls.
Jen-Hsun also revealed a brand new capability called “SHIELD Console Mode,” which transforms your portable SHIELD into a full gaming and entertainment console on your big-screen TV.
Simply attach SHIELD to your HDTV via HDMI, pair it with a Nyko PlayPad Pro Bluetooth controller, and sit back on your couch and play your PC games with GameStream. In addition to streaming PC games, the mode allows gamers to play Android games, browse the web, and watch their favorite movies at native 1080p on the big screen.
Starting on Oct. 28, to celebrate the release of GameStream, NVIDIA will offer up to $100 off SHIELD plus free copies of “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” “Splinter Cell Blacklist” and “Batman: Arkham Origins” with the purchase of select GeForce GTX graphics cards. Stay tuned for more details on resellers and system builders that will be offering the bundle. For more information on SHIELD, visit shield.nvidia.com."

Hopefully this means faster support for the Nvidia Shield with more Apps on the google play store.

Answer from Fist of Awesome developer
Fist of Awesome |
"Hi Jim,
I'm not sure if it works on the Shield unfortunately. I don't have one (yet anyway) so I'm afraid I have no idea. FIST OF AWESOME does support gamepads on regular Android though so there's a pretty good chance it'll work, but I have no way of confirming that.
Thanks for getting in touch, hope that helps in some way!

Head Honcho - I Fight Bears"UPDATE

Nvidia Shield PC Pairing ...
Let me point out that I won't be showing any Nvidia Shield / PC pairing images on here because I don't own a fancy pants PC rig with the qualifications to pull it off. I own a quad core AMD with an Nvidia Geforce 560. No where close to the requirements to run the pairing ability. But that won't stop me from trying other options.
Such as:
Such as:
- Kainy App
- Splashtop maybe (but how the hell do you get the control pad to work)
- Maybe Splashtop GamePad THD would work?? (only screen control mapping)
- Searching XDA for alternatives
- Staring at my Shield and pretending that I am playing Borderlands 2
The Official Streaming Specs Required:
System Requirements for PC Game Streaming:
- > GPU: GeForce GTX 650 or higher desktop GPU (Notebook GPUs are not supported at this time)
- > CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz or AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz or higher
- > System Memory: 4GB or higher
- > Software: GeForce Experience™ application and latest GeForce drivers
- > OS: Windows 8 or Windows 7
- > Routers: 802.11a/g router (minimum). 802.11n dual band router (recommended).
- > Download GeForce Experience to see if your PC is ready for PC Streaming from the My Rig tab.
DISTURBING - Missing Apps
My Neo Geo app by Robert Broglia is now gone. Missing from the google play store and missing from all my android devices. RetroArch is now missing from the Play store as well. Here is a link to the store showing it missing: http://goo.gl/JMNhj What chicanery goes on here? I would assume that it violated SNK / Playmore's copyright and they had it pulled. What does this mean for the rest of the emulation apps on the store. Is their time limited?
The only part here that really bothers me is that I paid for that app and it doesn't show up under my purchased apps anymore. That is underhanded when there is no warning. This is when I almost side with the crazies about hating on "the cloud" but I refuse. I enjoy the cloud. I like everything synced to each other. It's about connivence and connivence breeds smooth user experience.
I will be keeping an eye on other disappearing apps & will post if I notice others going poof. Of course I could be wrong about all of this. Robert Broglia could have pulled it himself. If I was a developer, and too many people complained ... I couldn't find the pull switch fast enough.

ARGH - Hexen 2 issue
This has to be the most frustrating issue I have had so far with the Nvidia Shield. Not true because control mapping still takes #1 pet peeve. When trying to add the data1 folder to the device, the folder would not show in the directory even though it was there. I had to restart the device for it to show. Which originally left my looking at the shield like Ben Stiller at the end of Zoolander when trying to get the information out of the computer.
I understand fist of awesome now and how much I want to punch a bear or deer right in the face. A side note since that game works on OUYA with a controller. Would it work on the Shield with controller support? Hmmmm? Sent an email to the developer have not heard back yet.
UPDATE:
Every time you have to restart when you try another one of these "beloko" apps. It won't let you create the folder because it is already there but does not show. I'm punching invisible air demons right now.

Beginning part with the linking to the data1 file issue |
Ok got it working. now wtf!! this menu eats bull penis. what am i suppose to do from here? hit random buttons. (hit android return key) |
Ok got to this menu. Now what. None of my button mapping is working. Shit. (You use the onscreen commands and that return command on the bottom left is actually what you push to go forward. Argh!!!!) |
Now I'm in the game sweet. Took about 5 tries to setup the game mapping the way I wanted it to work. Everything works great. I'm playing Hexen II on the Nvidia Shield |
Try to leave and now I am back to this poor menu. |
